Getting into the groove for a fabulous celebration

A Disco rider from Kent reached out to me a few weeks ago to see if we could organise a disco session for her birthday. A wonderful idea which I was excited to create for her.

We hired our local arena and she invited 5 of her horsey pals to join her. We had such a blast!

I have been working with my coaching contemporaries in different regions of the UK to dream up our themes for 2026. The birthday brief from Helen was "anything 80s" which fitted nicely with a song I kept picking for my walk to school each day....Madonna "Get Into The Groove". I had this in mind for a disco theme so the scene was set.

Hannah, my choreography queen, sprinkled her dance moves magic then I set about floorplanning in my local coffee shop (our house is being renovated so this is going to be a theme this year I feel!).

The birthday group exceeded my expectations in every way. Their outfits were on point, with ribbons braided into manes, riders wearing tutus and sequins everywhere. Oh the joy!

There was much excitement and some exuberant movement from the horses & ponies to start with. Once a "working" attitude was established the horses started to relax and went beautifully. The magic is that the riders are so focussed on the routine, steering, the moves and their synchonicity that they let the horses get on with their jobs. So the horses relax and start to really float along. I left with a very satisfied, excited and warm feeling.

Disco is so good for the soul. All of our souls! Horses, riders and coaches.

Smiles all round :)

Less Spring than normal

Ahhhh the joys of midlife. In recent years I’ve rediscovered my love of netball which was my sport of choice during my early teens. Alas it would appear that it’s possible to injure oneself even more
